Danish manufacturer of homeware fined for infringing the competition rules

Broste Copenhagen has accepted to pay a fine of DKK 6.000.000 for participating in a price cartel.

Broste Copenhagen is a Danish manufacturer and distributor of kitchenware, tableware, small-to-medium sized furniture and other home decorative items.

The Danish Competition Council (DCC) has issued a fine of DKK 6.000.000 against Broste Copenhagen for infringing the Danish Competition Act by having coordinated prices with a competing undertaking in January and July 2021, including having coordinated the introduction of a Covid-19 related freight surcharge.

The fine was originally set at DKK 7.500.000 by the DCC. However, the fine was reduced by DKK 1.500.000 because of Broste Copenhagen’s cooperation during the investigation of the case.

The Danish Competition and Consumer Authority is currently investigating the basis for an antitrust case against the competing undertaking.
