View map: These municipalities generate the most competition for public contracts
Competition for public contracts could ultimately provide citizens with more for their tax money. A new map of Denmark provides an overview of the municipalities which are best at creating competition for performing public contracts.
Kenneth Skov Jensen, Head of Department at the Competition and Consumer Authority, says:
"The municipalities perform very differently when it comes to tendering out contracts. We’re seeing a trend that municipalities which already have experience of exposing a lot of contracts to competition are generating competition for even more. Other municipalities have yet to make that decisive breakthrough."
"Competition for more public contracts will often give the public authorities more for their money, benefiting both citizens and the private companies that win the contracts."
"Many Danish municipalities have comparable conditions for the offering of contracts. The municipalities with the greatest potential to create more competition can thus learn from their neighbouring municipalities that have good experiences."
The Competition and Consumer Authority has published a new map of Denmark which may help provide an overview of how much competition the 98 municipalities are creating for performing their contracts.
On the map, you can see the percentage of the total contracts of each municipality which are put out to tender.
The contracts are also broken down so that for each municipality you can see results for:
- Urban development, housing and environment
- Traffic and Infrastructure
- Education and culture
- Healthcare
- Social and employment
- Maintenance and administration
