New organisation in the Competition and Consumer Authority
The Competition and Consumer Authority is to set up a Consumer Policy Centre and a new merger unit. At the same time, the competition law work is to be strengthened. The organisational changes will be complete by the end of the year.
By reorganising the Competition and Consumer Authority, Director General Jakob Hald and the rest of the leadership are aiming to create a better platform for the work of creating well-functioning markets and good consumer conditions in Denmark.
The organisational change involves the creation of a Consumer Policy Centre, which will take on the role of developing Denmark's consumer policy. Among other things, this includes preparatory legislative work and international assignments in the consumer area. The Competition and Consumer Authority's work with behavioural economics, which mainly focuses on activating consumers, will also be based at the centre. The same applies to the European Consumer Centre Denmark, which works to ensure that consumers can trade easily and securely across European borders.
The Competition and Consumer Authority is also creating a new merger unit, which will give a single point of access for companies in merger cases. The unit will specialise in merger control and have the main responsibility for processing major merger cases.
At the same time, the Competition and Consumer Authority's work with competition law will be strengthened. The Legal Secretariat is to be renamed the Competition Law Centre and will be given more resources. The aim is to create a strong competition-law environment while streamlining working processes.
As a result of the reorganisation, the Centre for Innovation and the Centre for Policy and Legislative Work will both be abolished.
