Competition Authority Requires Uber and Dantaxi Merger to Be Notified

Uber and Dantaxi must obtain approval for their merger, even though the two companies have already merged. For the first time, the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority (DCCA) is exercising its new power to require notification of a merger that would not otherwise be subject to mandatory notification, as there is a risk that it may harm competition.

In May 2025, Uber International Holding B.V. acquired Greenfleet Holding A/S, the parent company of the Dantaxi companies. As an independent competition authority, the DCCA now requires the merger to be notified.

Initially, the merger between Uber and Dantaxi was not subject to notification, as it fell below the ordinary turnover thresholds set out in the Danish Competition Act. Nevertheless, the DCCA has decided to require notification. This is the first time the new provision of the Danish Competition Act on notification of mergers below the ordinary turnover thresholds has been applied.

Based on the information received so far, the DCCA believes there is a risk that the merger between Uber and Dantaxi may significantly impede competition. This is due, in particular, to Uber’s cooperation agreement with Drivr Danmark, which has rapidly become a significant player in the Danish taxi market. The cooperation agreement means, among other things, that Drivr’s customers can book taxis via Uber’s app. Prior to the merger, Dantaxi provided its services via its own app but today also uses Uber’s app.

Uber and Dantaxi must notify the merger to the DCCA no later than 15 September 2025. Thereafter, the Authority will review the competitive effects in the same way as for mergers subject to mandatory notification. The investigation will determine whether the merger raises competition concerns that require intervention. If the DCCA finds that the merger does not significantly impede effective competition, it will be approved without conditions.
